Process

  1. Visit a Walking on Wood showroom to learn more about our range of timbers and technical capabilities.
  2. Work with our designers to compare timber grade, pattern, colour and age (reclaimed, antiqued or modern). The possibilities are infinite, but they are experienced in identifying the best combination for your space and budget. This involves selecting the timber grade (prime, character or rustic), cut (quarter, rift and crown sawn) and texture (brushed or antiqued) that will serve as the basis for your wood floor.
  3. Agree a date for our site surveyors to assess the particularities of your space (i.e. fireplaces, staircases, room transitions, WCs, doorways).
  4. Place an order from one of Walking on Wood’s showrooms. Long-standing relationships with craftsmen, combined with frequent quality checks to every supplier, ensure that there are no surprises when the wood arrives and that it will be correctly installed.
  5. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of under-floor heating with Walking on Wood. Special care and expertise is required when wood floors are installed on under-floor heating. We supply, fit and guarantee hardwood floors with under-floor heating systems.
  6. Outline the UK legal requirements for soundproofing flats and determine whether they apply to your space. Walking on Wood recommends the Accorub® system but uses other impact sound reduction products when required.
  7. Expect our fitters to work on-site once the wood is delivered. Their craftsmanship matches the superb quality of our timbers and finishes. At Walking on Wood standards of best practice are maintained and fitting details are completed by proven methods to achieve best results.
  8. Expect the same craftsmanship and flexibility from our finishers. Walking on Wood always sources top qualities which are prefinished in our workshop in London where possible to ensure dust free and uniform finishing. Where clients want to choose the colour on site or where the finish requires it, we finish on site to ensure that the colour of the natural wood (light, dark or very dark) complements the rest of the scheme, i.e. walls, natural light and furniture.
  9. Keep in touch with our after-sales service to ensure you remain as satisfied with your floor through its lifetime as you are on the day it is fitted. Suitable maintenance products are available in the showrooms.
